We were not all that surprised to hear that Grace Coddington was stepping down from her position at Vogue. We were disappointed, Ms Coddington is the bridge to the golden age of Fashion, the Vreeland years, she carried the torch from the groundbreaking fashion editorials of Diana Vreeland’s reign, with David Bailey and Bert Stern behind the camera, marrying fashion, rock and roll and fantasy. A former model, Ms Coddington intuitively knew the power of fashion and photography to not only tell a story, but transport the reader to a new way of thinking. Her editorials are works of art, on the same level as the clothes featured in them, and the photographs of them. It got us thinking of the power of being behind the scenes. The thrill and the exhilaration doesn’t come from standing in the spotlight, it comes from building and focusing the spotlight. (It’s no shock The West Wing is my favorite show.
So I sincerely hope, her next project is truly her own vision, with no impediments or restrictions.
