“I was fortunate to have grown up in the art colony of Rockport, Massachusetts and to have been exposed to plein air painting by my father and his associates at a very early age. My attraction to the French and American Impressionists and my choice of art as a career grew from and was nurtured by this environment.” Caleb Stone

Life Drawing from the Cast by
Vincent Crotty

Workshop description: This workshop will focus on charcoal drawing from the cast. By drawing the cast, students gain a better understanding of form and also a greater ability to see measurements. There are many approaches to drawing the cast, and fear can be a major obstacle to getting down to the business of drawing and painting. Students can alleviate their fears by gaining a greater awareness of the different cast-drawing methods. This exercise will result in more fluency in drawing. A slide show of drawings and paintings will also be given. Registration is required and space is limited.
Supplies – Charcoal: Fusain Nitram - “demi-dur”, Paper: Canson Charcoal paper in soft white or pure white – sold in single sheets, pencils, sharpener, kneaded rubber eraser.

About the artist:
Vincent Crotty is an Irish-born artist living in Boston. Regarded for his landscape and figurative paintings, Vincent explores the places and faces of both Atlantic coasts as his primary subject matter. Working with oils, he paints with rugged textures and vigorous brushstrokes, balanced by sensitive color. His paintings reveal a remarkable understanding of light, and with this ability, Vincent transforms everyday subject matter into images that are memorable and moving.
